The Applied Research Center (ARC) at Florida International University (FIU) conducted a series of videoconferences from April 29 through May 1, 2013, to present the applied research conducted over the last year as part of their Cooperative Agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE) as well as the proposed tasks for the next year. Participants in the videoconferences included the research scientists and engineers at ARC, associated FIU faculty, personnel at DOE Headquarters, and the collaborating staff at DOE sites across the U.S., including Savannah River National Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Washington River Protection Solutions at Hanford, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the D&D Working Group Chairman from the Energy Facility Contractors Group. <\/strong><\/p>\n The research presentation topics included five principle areas:<\/p>\n Each topic area was presented and discussed during 2-hour segments which allowed for active discussion and participation from the DOE and field site attendees. The final conference with senior DOE personnel summarized the research at a higher level and discussed outcomes from the earlier series of research presentations.<\/p>\n In addition, four FIU STEM\u00a0 students (DOE Fellows) who participate in the workforce development program (http:\/\/fellows.fiu.edu<\/a> ) gave brief presentations of their applied research work at ARC.<\/p>\n Please contact Dr. Leonel E.
