The Department of Energy’s corporate homepage features a website launched by the Applied Research Center showcasing applied research performed under a Cooperative Agreement between DOE’s Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM) and Florida International University.<\/p>\n

MIAMI <\/strong>\u2013 A new website<\/a> features research performed under a cooperative agreement between EM<\/a> and Florida International University (FIU).<\/p>\n

Developed by the Applied Research Center at FIU, the website is dedicated to applied research and serves as a centralized portal with the most current technical reports, quarterly progress reports, end-of-year reports, presentations, journal articles and conference papers generated by EM. Future updates will include the addition of older research reports. The website allows keyword searches for titles and filenames.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new website is a comprehensive, one-stop shop for the Applied Research Center\u2019s valuable research supporting EM\u2019s cleanup program. We are very pleased to have this new web resource available to our user community,\u201d said John DeGregory, an engineer with EM\u2019s Office of Deactivation & Decommissioning and Facility Engineering. \u201cIt will offer easy access to an abundance of knowledge resources to help advance our mission to safely complete the cleanup of the Cold War legacy.”<\/p>\n

The center provides technical research support to EM in environmental remediation and student workforce development for the high priority areas of radioactive waste processing, facility deactivation and decommissioning, soil and groundwater remediation and information technology development for environmental management. The applied research at the center develops technical solutions for the EM cleanup program at the Hanford, Oak Ridge, Savannah River, Idaho and Moab sites.<\/p>\n

The center also runs the DOE Fellows Program<\/a>, which EM has long supported as a way to create a pipeline of FIU STEM scientists and engineers to help span the science and engineering talent gap necessary to complete EM\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n

Last year, EM Senior Advisor Dave Huizenga met with the program’s students, who discussed their EM applied research and talked about their work experience in summer internships at DOE sites and national laboratories. In 2011, EM Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Tracy Mustin welcomed FIU students to the program at an induction ceremony.<\/p>\n
