This project supports the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (DOE EM) by assisting with environmental cleanup in the soil and groundwater at Hanford and Savannah River Sites, seeking a more thorough understanding of contaminant behavior prior to the application of remediation techniques. Dr. Katsenovich is responsible for the development and evaluation of innovative technologies, focusing primarily on solving challenging environmental problems in support of the DOE sites. She has extensive experience in the research and development of innovative technologies in the areas of soil and groundwater remediation from organic and inorganic pollutants, including radionuclides, oxidation of toxic or inhibitory organics, nanoscale zerovalent iron applications, constructed wetlands, and wastewater treatment. Since 2005, Dr. Katsenovich has served as an affiliated and graduate faculty at FIU\u2019s CEE Department, supervising and providing technical guidance to undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. students involved in DOE and DOD related projects. Students working under her supervision gain insights into the biological and chemical processes that occur in the subsurface (soil and groundwater) and investigate the effect of environmental factors on dissolution, solubility processes and reaction kinetics.
