{"id":2137,"date":"2014-06-26T12:02:35","date_gmt":"2014-06-26T16:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eicdev.fiu.edu\/phparc\/?p=1454"},"modified":"2023-01-23T11:39:24","modified_gmt":"2023-01-23T16:39:24","slug":"highlight-for-the-new-fiu-nuclear-fellowships-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eicdev.fiu.edu\/phparc\/feature\/highlight-for-the-new-fiu-nuclear-fellowships-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Highlight for the new FIU Nuclear Fellowships Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1455\" src=\"https:\/\/eicdev.fiu.edu\/phparc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/picNuclearLab-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"picNuclearLab\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" \/>Florida International University has a long history of nuclear research and has been developing a new Masters in Applied Radiological Science (MARS) degree program.\u00a0 On June 23<sup>rd<\/sup> the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced that it had awarded a new grant entitled, \u201cFIU Nuclear Fellowship Program.\u201d This is the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> grant awarded to FIU in the past 2 years by the NRC to support this vision.\u00a0 Dr. Konstantinos Kavallieratos from the Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry is the Principal Investigator (PI) and Dr. David Roelant of the Applied Research Center is the Co-PI.\u00a0 This new $400K grant will fund 4 fellowships per year for 4 years for graduate students studying nuclear science.\u00a0 Dr. Kavallieratos and Dr. Roelant also are PI and Co-PI on another NRC grant entitled, \u201cFIU Nuclear Scholars Program\u201d that funds $200K for 16 undergraduate students each year for 2 years.
