Dear FIU Colleagues,\u00a0<\/p>\n

I have some exiting news to share with you. Effective Monday, July 25, 2011, we will welcome Dr. Ines Triay, former Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management at the US Department of Energy (DOE-EM), as a Visiting DOE Scholar here at FIU ARC.\u00a0 Dr. Triay remains a DOE Career Senior Executive Service employee and she will be in a detail assignment at FIU\u2019s Applied Research Center under an IPA (Intergovernmental Personnel Act). \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dr. Ines Triay, Visiting DOE Scholar at FIU ARC<\/p><\/div>\n

Dr. Triay will utilize the extant FIU-ARC DOE Workforce Development Model\u00a0 to expand, develop, enhance and strengthen a \u201cpipeline<\/strong>\u201d for women and minorities for DOE (e.g., Nuclear Security Administration, Office of Nuclear Energy, Office of Legacy Management, and the Office of Environmental Management).\u00a0 The DOE-FIU partnership led to the creation of the Applied Research Center at FIU dedicated to applied, environmental research and development which launched a DOE Workforce Development Program in 2007 (fellows.fiu.edu<\/a> ) .\u00a0This successful program has provided professional development, hands-on research and training, and DOE employment opportunities to FIU STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) minority students.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dr. Triay\u2019s work and role at FIU will allow DOE to gain added benefits through her direct hands-on support to the DOE-FIU Program to grow and directly mentor a pipeline of minority STEM students specifically trained to enter the DOE workforce with a focus on the nuclear portfolio in technical areas of need. The FIU students and staff will benefit from Dr. Triay\u2019s years of experience in the federal government and her knowledge of the DOE organization and other federal agencies. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dr. Triay will also help FIU achieve its vision of providing top quality minority students with a unique opportunity for hands-on research and a potential career with DOE; enhancing the quality of student, faculty and staff research and development through close collaborations with scientists from national laboratories and other universities; stimulating greater numbers of minority students entering STEM disciplines at graduate and undergraduate levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is an outstanding opportunity for FIU and ARC. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Ines Triay\u00a0<\/p>\n
