Hansell Gonzalez (Chemistry)<\/p><\/div>\n

I\u2019m delighted to share this excellent news with our community (the Department of Energy\u2019s Office of Environmental Management, Savannah River National Laboratory, FIU ARC and FIU Chemistry). Today,\u00a0our DOE Fellow, Mr. Hansell Gonzalez-Raymat successfully passed his dissertation defense for a Ph.D.\u00a0in\u00a0chemistry.\u00a0Hansell graduated from\u00a0FIU\u00a0in fall 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.\u00a0After being accepted as a Ph.D. graduate student, Hansell was\u00a0also\u00a0competitively selected as a DOE Fellow in fall 2013.\u00a0This has been an incredible journey for Hansell. As a DOE Fellow,\u00a0he conducted DOE EM related research at ARC\u00a0and\u00a0completed two summer internships at DOE\u2019s Savannah River National\u00a0Laboratory.\u00a0 He has published his research in peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous conferences.\u00a0 He\u00a0also won the\u00a0best\u00a0Student Poster\u00a0Track at\u00a0the annual\u00a0Waste Management Symposia\u00a02018. His research was developed at ARC\u00a0in\u00a0close collaboration with our colleagues at SRNL. In fact, one of his Ph.D.\u00a0committee members was his summer mentor from SRNL (Dr. Miles Denham)\u00a0during both of his internships. Hansell is an outstanding young man.\u00a0Right after graduation,\u00a0this fall, he\u2019ll start his professional career as a Sr. Scientist at Savannah River\u00a0National\u00a0Lab in\u00a0Aiken, SC.\u00a0Hansell\u2019s\u00a0story reflects\u00a0so very well the mission and vision of FIU\u2019s\u00a0DOE Fellows program, training and mentoring\u00a0the\u00a0next generation\u00a0of\u00a0engineers and scientists.\u00a0This would not have been possible without Hansell\u2019s\u00a0incredible dedication and drive, as well as the tremendous support from DOE\u2019s Office of Environmental Management, Savannah River National\u00a0Lab, FIU\u00a0Chemistry\u00a0Department (Dr. Yong Cai\u00a0–\u00a0Hansell\u2019s\u00a0major professor) and his mentors at ARC (Dr.\u00a0Yelena\u00a0Katsenovich, Dr.\u00a0Ravi\u00a0Gudavalli, Dr.\u00a0Hilary\u00a0Emerson,\u00a0and\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Leonel\u00a0Lagos).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
