The Department of Energy (DOE) -Florida International University (FIU) Science and Engineering Workforce Development Initiative was established by DOE\u2019s Office of Environmental Management (DOE EM) and FIU\u2019s Applied Research Center in 2007. The program is designed to build upon existing DOE-FIU relationship by creating a \u201cpipeline\u201d of minority engineers specifically trained and mentored to enter the Department of Energy workforce in technical areas of need. This innovative program was established to help address DOE\u2019s future workforce needs by partnering with academic, government and DOE contractor organizations to mentor future minority scientists and engineers in the research, development, and deployment of new technologies addressing DOE\u2019s environmental cleanup challenges.
