The Chemical Engineering Journal is an International journal of research and development, which focuses upon three aspects of chemical engineering: chemical reaction engineering, environmental chemical engineering, and materials synthesis and processing.<\/p>\n<p>The paper titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/authors.elsevier.com\/a\/1bP%7EW4x7R2W45w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Surfactant-Modified Siliceous Zeolite Y for Pertechnetate Remediation<\/a>\u201d, was authored by Dr. Dickson together with Nathan A. Conroy, Yu Xie, Brian A. Powell, John C. Seaman, Maxim I. Boyanov, Kenneth M. Kemner, and Daniel I. Kaplan, a team of scientists from Los Alamos National Laboratory, Clemson University, Savannah River National Laboratory, University of Georgia, Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Argonne National Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the research described in the paper include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Modification of zeolite with hexadecyltrimethylammonium enhance anion-binding.<\/li>\n<li>Modified zeolite demonstrated fast kinetics and significant sorption capacity for TcO<sub>4<\/sub><sup>\u2212<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<li>Pertechnetate is incorporated into modified zeolite as an inner-sphere complex.<\/li>\n<li>Sorbents provide a low-cost approach to binding pertechnetate under oxidized conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr. John Dickson is an environmental soil chemist and mineralogist with expertise in low-temperature geochemistry, mineralogy, contaminants\u2019 remediation and material science. His scholarly work encompasses the use of field- and laboratory-based and spectroscopy approaches to address complex environmental problems related to safe disposition of nuclear waste and remediation of contaminated subsurface (soil, water and groundwater). Dr. Dickson\u2019s research interests span the fundamental understanding of biogeochemical cycling of nutrients, contaminants, heavy metals and radionuclide in natural and engineered porous media.
