- ARC hosted an exhibitor booth at the Decommissioning, Decontamination and Reutilization (DD&R) 2012 Conference. The booth was managed by Himanshu Upadhyay, Peggy Shoffner and DOE Fellows to showcase the D&D Knowledge Management Information Tool, the DOE Fellows Program, and DOE-EM applied research being conducted at the Applied Research Center in the areas of waste processing, soil and groundwater remediation, and deactivation and decommissioning. Fact sheets describing ARC research and projects were distributed to participants visiting the booth to increase awareness about FIU and ARC.<\/li>\n
- Himanshu Upadhyay presented the Service Oriented Architecture Based Framework for D&D Knowledge Management to a live audience at the American Nuclear Society DD&R Conference. D&D KM-IT web and mobile systems generated a lot of interest in the D&D community when presented to the conference participants which included U.S. and international attendees. D&D KM-IT is a web-based knowledge management tool, custom built for the D&D user community. The system has been developed by the Applied Research Center at Florida International University in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy\u2019s Office of Environmental Management, the Energy Facility Contractors Group (EFCOG) and the Integrated Safety Solutions Center\u00a0 at Savannah River Site. - Dr. Leo Lagos gave an oral presentation on a feasibility study for the development of a remote platform for the remote removal of strippable coatings. This research was conducted in support of Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM) and aims to identify, develop, demonstrate and deploy innovative technologies for decontamination and decommissioning (D&D). \u00a0The feasibility study was performed in collaboration with the vendor, International Climbing Machine, to determine the feasibility of adapting their remote climbing machine for the remote removal of strippable coatings. Dr. Lagos also served as co-chair for the Regulatory, Lessons Learned Track I session.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

- DOE Fellow Heidi Henderson, from the DOE \u2013\u00a0FIU Science and Engineering Workforce Development Initiative, presented a technical poster during the DD&R Poster Session. Her presentations was based on the collaboration between DOE, FIU, and the Energy Facility Contractor\u2019s Group (EFCOG) to identify and develop lessons learned and best practices from across the DOE complex and disseminate the final documents to the DOE community by publishing them on the EFCOG website (www.efcog.org<\/a>) and the D&D Knowledge Management Information Tool (https:\/\/www.dndkm.org\/<\/a>). The poster was entitled, \u201cEFCOG Best Practices and Lessons Learned.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
